Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting

Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) refers to sickness and vomiting associated with chemotherapy – a common radiation treatment used to kill cancer cells. It is estimated that around 75% of cancer patients experience nausea and vomiting related to chemotherapy.

CINV can develop in three main forms

  • Acute (occurs less than 24 hours following treatment);
  • Delayed (occurs between 1 and 5 days following treatment);
  • Anticipatory (where unmanaged nausea and vomiting continues until the next round of treatment);

The condition may also be linked to a number of secondary symptoms, including weight loss and malnutrition, appetite loss, fatigue, and diarrhoea.

Treatments for Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting

Extra medications are commonly prescribed by doctors to alleviate CINV, including serotonin receptor antagonists, anti-sickness medications, and anti-inflammatories. Natural remedies, such as ginger, may also be considered.

Medical Cannabis Treatment

While these more conventional remedies are often useful, they are not always effective. Medical cannabis is increasingly being considered as alternative therapy to reduce the symptoms of CINV. In the UK, CINV is one of the few conditions for which the National Institution for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends the use of medical. Our specialist clinicians assess every case carefully to provide relevant and meaningful advice and treatment.

Membership FAQ's

What are Wellford Memberships?

Wellford Memberships are designed to give patients more flexibility around how they access ongoing care. Different memberships provide different levels of support, appointment access and additional benefits.

All patients begin with an initial consultation and free follow-up appointment for £20. Following your first follow-up appointment, you can choose the membership that best suits your needs.

All memberships include appointments, prescription fees and monthly delivery. Additional benefits vary depending on the membership selected.

Enhanced is best suited for patients who want a more complete level of support, including longer appointments, regular quarterly reviews, continuity with the same clinician where possible, and access to additional rewards and benefits.

Essential is best suited for experienced patients who are on consistent treatment and require less frequent clinician interaction and ongoing monitoring, while still maintaining access to safe, high-quality care. Not everyone may be eligible for Essential and the Patient Care Team will support you in choosing the most appropriate membership.

Yes. Memberships have a 3-month minimum term. After this, patients can discuss changing memberships with the clinic team.

Please allow up to 7 working days after your membership has been activated for your voucher to be issued.
