Fibromyalgia

Also called Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS), Fibromyalgia is a long-term chronic pain condition that causes pain and discomfort all over the body. While pain is one of the most common symptoms, people with Fibromyalgia may also experience:

  • Heightened sensitivity to pain
  • Extreme tiredness
  • Muscle stiffness
  • Sleep problems
  • Problems with memory and concentration (known as “fibro-fog”)
  • Headaches
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

The exact cause of Fibromyalgia is unknown, but it is thought that the condition can be triggered by a number of physically or emotionally stressful events, such as injuries or infections, childbirth, having an operation, the breakdown of a relationship, or the death of a loved one.

The condition is thought to be related to abnormal levels of certain chemicals in the brain and changes in the way pain messages are carried around the body. Some evidence suggests that genetics may also play a role in the development of Fibromyalgia.

Treatments for Fibromyalgia

There is currently no cure for Fibromyalgia. Therefore, treatment options focus on symptom management and improvements in Quality of Life. This can include the prescription of medicines, such as antidepressants and painkillers, talking therapies (such as counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), and lifestyle changes.

Medical Cannabis and Fibromyalgia

A growing body of evidence suggests that cannabis-based medical products (CBMPs) could be useful for the treatment and symptom management of a number of pain conditions. A significant proportion of this research has focused on the potential of medical cannabis in the treatment of Fibromyalgia – both for improving pain and Quality of Life measures.

The Wellford Medical Clinics specialises in medical cannabis treatment for pain management. Our specialist clinicians assess every case carefully to provide relevant and meaningful advice and treatment.

Membership FAQ's

What are Wellford Memberships?

Wellford Memberships are designed to give patients more flexibility around how they access ongoing care. Different memberships provide different levels of support, appointment access and additional benefits.

All patients begin with an initial consultation and free follow-up appointment for £20. Following your first follow-up appointment, you can choose the membership that best suits your needs.

All memberships include appointments, prescription fees and monthly delivery. Additional benefits vary depending on the membership selected.

Enhanced is best suited for patients who want a more complete level of support, including longer appointments, regular quarterly reviews, continuity with the same clinician where possible, and access to additional rewards and benefits.

Essential is best suited for experienced patients who are on consistent treatment and require less frequent clinician interaction and ongoing monitoring, while still maintaining access to safe, high-quality care. Not everyone may be eligible for Essential and the Patient Care Team will support you in choosing the most appropriate membership.

Yes. Memberships have a 3-month minimum term. After this, patients can discuss changing memberships with the clinic team.

Please allow up to 7 working days after your membership has been activated for your voucher to be issued.
